Are Young Men and Women Diverging Politically?
Research in several countries suggests that over the last decade or so a divergence has emerged between young men and women. This seems to particularly noticeable amongst those referred to as Gen Z, ie those born from 1997 onwards. Young women seem to be moving in the left/liberal direction, whilst young men seem to be becoming more conservative.
This is a change not seen in older generations where the views of men and women have always been more closely aligned. But some are questioning whether this effect is real, or as large as reported. We’ll be discussing if, and how, this divergence could be happening. And if it is, what the implications are.
